Iloilo has taken a significant step toward a cleaner energy future with the commencement of construction on the ₱ 2.37 billion Ajuy-1 Solar Power Project in Barangay Tipacla. Once completed, the 62-megawatt (MW) peak facility is expected to strengthen the local power grid, draw in sustainable investments, and contribute to the region’s long-term energy security.
During the launch ceremony, Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias praised the project as a step forward in Iloilo’s push for sustainability, applauding the development for supporting the province’s green agenda. The event also marked a milestone for newly appointed Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin, who selected Ajuy for her first official engagement.

About the project
Covering nearly 48 hectares, the project is being developed by Jin Navitas Solaris. The facility will connect to the Panay Island grid via the Sara-Panit 69 kilovolt (kV) transmission line and has cleared its System Impact Study, paving the way for integration into the regional power network.
Iloilo’s first large-scale, land-based solar installation is enrolled under the DOE’s Green Energy Auction Program 2 (GEA-2) and qualified for a green energy tariff of ₱4.35 per kilowatt-hour. It forms part of the national push to raise renewable energy’s share to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
Garin highlighted the project as an achievement in the country’s clean energy transition, noting its role in cutting carbon emissions and delivering stable, renewable power to local communities. “The Ajuy Solar Power Plant is a testament to our collective commitment to a sustainable energy future,” she said.

Iloilo’s renewable advocacy
Reflecting Iloilo’s strong commitment to a low-carbon future, the solar installation will stand as a direct outcome of the province’s Renewable Energy Plan. Guided by the I-PORE framework and backed by local ordinances that encourage investment and awareness, the project demonstrates how policy can drive real progress in clean energy development.
The Iloilo Provincial Ordinance for Renewable Energy (I-PORE), or Ordinance No. 2022-277, is a landmark policy promoting clean energy across the province. It allocates part of the provincial budget for renewable projects, offers investor incentives, boosts public awareness, and integrates renewable energy into local development plans.
As the Ajuy-1 Solar Power Project moves forward, it is set to bring a wave of benefits to northern Iloilo—from job creation and improved energy access to stronger grid reliability. Beyond its green credentials, the facility is poised to lower power costs, boost local revenues, and support broader social and economic development in the region.
