After a 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Cebu on September 30, the Aboitiz Group sprang into action, mobilizing its business units to deliver urgent aid to the hardest-hit communities.
In Bogo City, Visayan Electric Company, Inc., together with the Aboitiz Foundation, rolled out over a thousand relief packs, as well as in the nearby towns of Medellin, Daanbantayan, and San Remigio. The aid included clean drinking water, ready-to-eat meals, and essential hygiene kits.
By October 3, the Aboitiz Group had extended more than ₱2.5 million in assistance, delivering 11,385 liters of water, 3,600 food packs, and 2,000 non-food items to roughly 3,600 families.
The relief effort was carried out in collaboration with the Toledo City Government, which coordinated with the recipient LGUs. Residents from host barangays also pitched in, volunteering their time to help repack the donated goods.
“These are running figures as we continue to provide aid and assess the evolving needs of our communities,” stated Aboitiz Foundation President Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar. We will keep updating our partners and stakeholders as more relief efforts are carried out.”
Meanwhile, AboitizPower SVP and COO of the Distribution Business Group, Anton Perdices, emphasized that its commitment to Cebu extends beyond immediate aid, reflecting a strong bayanihan spirit. “We are in a position to help and keep the bayanihan spirit alive as we support communities in recovery and contribute to collective rebuilding efforts,” he noted.

Through Operation Tulong, the public service initiative of DZRH, the Aboitiz Group provided water filter buckets to support families displaced by the earthquake. With clean drinking water among the most urgent needs, the donated filters, developed by the nonprofit Waves for Water, treat freshwater from rain, rivers, springs, and wells to remove bacteria and protozoa, ensuring safe consumption.
Alongside ongoing relief efforts, AboitizPower fully restored its two Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI) power generation units after safety inspections, helping stabilize power to the Visayas grid. Visayan Electric, the country’s second-largest privately-owned distribution utility, continued reenergization work in affected areas while coordinating with the Philippine Red Cross and local governments.
The relief efforts tapped a wide range of Aboitiz Group units, from Aboitiz Equity Ventures and AboitizPower to Visayan Electric, UnionBank, CitySavings, and AboitizFoods. Other contributors included Aboitiz InfraCapital and its airport and water divisions, Unity Digital Infrastructure, AboitizLand, Aboitiz Economic Estates, and Aboitiz Construction.
