BYD Cebu, the newest electric vehicle hub in the Visayas region, has officially opened its doors to the public. The state-of-the-art dealership, located along the renowned automotive strip of A.S. Fortuna Street in Mandaue City, aims to revolutionize electric mobility in the area.
Owned and operated by Global Star Motors Corporation, the BYD Cebu dealership is part of ACMobility, Ayala Corporation’s comprehensive mobility solutions provider that distributes BYD passenger electric vehicles in the Philippines.
This development coincided with the discussions surrounding and approval of the recently expanded tax breaks for electric vehicles in the Philippines.
State-of-the-Art
The new BYD Cebu facility boasts a spacious 2,155-square-meter layout, featuring a 354-square-meter showroom that can accommodate up to six BYD electric models on display. Designed to the latest BYD Global Brand Identity standards, the dealership ensures a world-class customer experience.
Catering to the needs of BYD enthusiasts, the dealership offers a dedicated service reception, a comfortable customer lounge, and a new car release bay. Its seven-bay service center is equipped to handle the minimal maintenance requirements of BYD electric vehicles, providing seamless support to owners.
Service-Oriented
The new facility is also set to become an ACMobility hub, offering both AC and DC charging options for BYD and other electric vehicle owners in the city.
Chief executive officer of ACMobility Jaime Alfonso Jobel de Ayala said “BYD’s rapid expansion in the country provides more Filipinos with access to its technologically superior, efficient, and ultra-safe lineup of battery electric vehicles.”
“As we take this innovative technology to more regions, it is the hardworking individuals in our dealerships who answer our customers’ questions, attend to their needs, and, more importantly, support and reinforce the BYD EV ownership experience. We welcome Edward Vincent Onglatco and Global Star Motors Corporation to our fast-expanding network of BYD electric vehicle dealerships nationwide,” he added.
Sustainability-Driven
Antonio “Toti” Zara III, the head of automotive retail and distribution at ACMobility, is excited about the inauguration of BYD Cebu, as it marks the beginning of electric vehicle adoption in the Visayas region.
“The rapidly growing BYD dealership network in the country reflects the public’s growing demand for the new age of sustainable mobility. BYD Cebu is our fourth active dealership, and by the end of the year, we will have 20 BYD dealerships in key cities nationwide. We continue to make the democratization of electric vehicles possible by making BYD electric vehicles readily available to more Filipinos nationwide, along with the supporting infrastructure that makes the experience a seamless transition from traditional internal combustion-engined cars. We are confident BYD Cebu will be a key player in this endeavor,” Zara said.
James Ng, BYD’s managing director in the Philippines and Singapore, applauded the official opening of the BYD Cebu facility.
“BYD electric vehicles and the technology that make them so desirable in over 70 countries are now here in Cebu,” said Ng. “We have heard a lot about this crucial city in the Visayas and its affinity with mobility, and today, we begin to share with Cebuanos the brand’s promise of delivering a sustainable mobility alternative through electric vehicles. We welcome everyone to visit BYD Cebu and experience the future,” he shared.
Highlighting Global Star Motor Corporation’s commitment to delivering quality service, president and CEO Edward Vincent Onglatco said they will be focused on nurturing customer confidence and building lasting relationships between customers and the BYD brand in Cebu.
“With the growing urban population and bustling economy, Cebu is the perfect backdrop for BYD’s electric vehicle range, which embodies urban sustainability,” he said.
At an earlier media launch, Onglatco touted the sustainability advantages of owning a BYD vehicle. He said a fully charged BYD car can cover a round trip from Metro Cebu to the northern or southern tip and still have around one-third of the battery still available. This is a more sustainable way of using cars.
A wall home charger, a portable charger, and a vehicle-to-load adapter also come with each BYD car, allowing the EV to act as a power backup.
These are beside the fact that new energy vehicles in general are a cleaner alternative to conventional cars, producing zero tailpipe emissions and having lower fuel and maintenance costs.
At the showroom opening, Onglatco also expressed gratitude to Ayala Corporation, particularly ACMobility and BYD Cars Philippines, as well as BYD itself, for their trust and confidence in Global Star Motor’s abilities, further assuring that the BYD brand is in capable and trustworthy hands in Cebu.
