The Negros Occidental Provincial Power Sector Study Group, also known as PPS-SG, collaborated with the Department of Energy (DOE) to complete the structure for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap.
Framework Development Process
“The framework will now be fleshed out to reflect specific interventions and measures needed to attain the power security goal of the province,” Rafael Coscolluela, the province’s consultant on energy and environmental concerns, said in a statement on Monday.
The PPS-SG, in collaboration with the University of St. La Salle and DOE representatives, organized a two-day planning conference on June 19 and 20 to complete the fundamental framework. Those present included individuals from the Energy Policy and Planning Bureau, Electric Power Industry Management Bureau, Renewable Energy Management Bureau, and the DOE Visayas Field Office.
Milestones and Achievements
Jeanette Patindol, who leads the PPS-SG, stated that the DOE conference represents a key milestone in developing the roadmap. Upon its completion, the roadmap will be showcased to all stakeholders for their adoption at an upcoming summit.
During the meeting, the PPS-SG showcased the Negros Occidental Power Sector Assessment Study and the results of the Power Summit that took place on May 3. The DOE also shared its revised Power Outlook and Energy Roadmap, which sparked conversations about the data and associated issues. Following this, Coscolluela presented the suggested framework for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap and encouraged the participants to contribute their suggestions and insights.
#RRAAASEON2030: Targeting Sustainable Energy
The creation of the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap is part of the SecuRE Negros initiative, a province-led commitment to energy security through the promotion of distributed energy systems or distributed energy resource models and the utilization of renewable energy sources. It is adopting the hashtag #RRAAASEON2030 for Reliable, Renewable, Available, Accessible, Affordable, and Sustainable Energy for Occidental Negros, with a target deadline of 2030.
